Dr. Gianluca Camillieri is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, sports traumatology, knee and shoulder surgery, as well as arthroscopic and prosthetic surgery. After graduating in Medicine, Summa Cum Laude, and specializing in orthopaedic surgery with honors from La Sapienza University in Rome, he enriched his training with experience in prestigious international and national health care facilities. Prominent among these is a fellowship in hip and knee surgery at the New York University Medical Centre with Prof. Joseph Fetto.

His expertise in orthopaedic, sports medicine and trauma is demonstrated by the several surgical and regenerative procedures performed on high-level athletes, as well as his involvement with prominent teams, including AS Roma Calcio (2000-2002). Dr. Camillieri is also an orthopaedic physician for many sports federations, including the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), the Italian Swimming, Water Polo and Diving Federation (FIN), and the Italian Judo, Karate, Wrestling and Martial Arts Federation (FIJLKAM). In addition, he is chief of the medical staff of the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) and orthopaedic consultant of the Italian Olympic Committee.

Dr. Camillieri has been professor of Sports Traumatology at IUSM Foro Italico in Rome, of Orthopedic Biomechanics at La Sapienza University in Rome, and a researcher at the University of L'Aquila. His work has been recognized by the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) and the Italian Research Council (CNR).

He is an honorary member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and an international member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and he has been member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). In addition, he is an active member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), where he participates in the Sports and Preservation and Communications committees. He also chaired the Web and Communications Committee and the Under 45 Committee of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).

Dr. Camillieri's interest in the advancement of sports medicine is evidenced by his research activities and scientific production. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and is a reviewer for the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM), as well as for Knee Surgery and KSSTA. He was ESSKA-AOSSM traveling fellow in 2001 with Romain Seil, Patrick Djian and Pierre Chambat.
