        Prof. Gruttadauria has worked at ISMETT since its opening. He was the first Sicilian surgeon to perform a liver transplant in Sicily. In May 2017, he was appointed Director of Department for the Treatment and Study of Abdominal Diseases and Abdominal Transplantation. In April 2016, he was appointed Chief of the Abdominal Surgery and Transplantation Unit. Since 1997, he has been Associate Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he also served as Research and Clinical Fellow, Visiting Professor of Surgery, Instructor of Surgery and Assistant Professor of Surgery. He is also an Associate Professor at the University of Catania.

        Prof. Gruttadauria has performed more than 5,200 major surgical procedures (361 laparoscopically). In October 2002, he was authorized by the Italian Ministry of Health to perform deceased and living donor liver transplantation, deceased and living donor kidney transplantation, pancreas and pancreatic islet transplantation.

        He has performed more than 762 abdominal organ transplants and more than 742 liver resections. He is the author of 580 scientific publications.
