specialist-professional-biography-headingGian Francesco Mureddu is a medical doctor specialized in cardiovascular diseases. With over 30 years of clinical experience in Italy and abroad, he has expertise in cardiovascular epidemiology, primary prevention, and risk stratification, with a focus on imaging techniques, particularly echocardiography.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Naples Federico II, where he also obtained his specialization, both with the highest honors. He furthered his education at the Hypertension Center, Cornell Medical University, New York.
Dr. Mureddu has extensive experience in the treatment of chronic ischemic heart disease, cardiac decompensation and valve diseases, as well as in innovative drug therapies for hypercholesterolemia, atrial fibrillation, and cardiac decompensation. He is also an expert in epidemiological models of transition from arterial hypertension to cardiac decompensation, and instrumental analysis of early signs of atherosclerosis and cardiac decompensation. He also conducted research on hemodynamic and hemorheology factors across various physiological stress conditions, such as obesity and anorexia nervosa.
Currently, he is director of the Rehabilitation Cardiology Unit at the British Hospital Presidium of San Giovanni – Addolorata Hospital in Rome. Previously, he served as staff physician at the Cardiology Division of San Lazzaro Hospital in Alba (Cuneo).
Dr. Mureddu is the author of over 300 publications, including 75 original research articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented over 150 contributions at national and international conferences and has made numerous educational contributions, including book chapters, monographs, and invited lectures. He has also contributed as a reviewer to the development of the latest European Society of Cardiology guidelines for the treatment of dyslipidemia. Currently, he is vice president of the Italian Group for Preventive and Rehabilitation Cardiology (GICR).
