Professor Stefano Zaffagnini is a surgeon specialising in Orthopedics and Traumatology, who graduated with top marks from the University of Bologna. During his career, he has accumulated extensive experience in the treatment of orthopedic problems, focusing in particular on sports traumatology.

He has enriched his professional background with significant experiences, such as ESSKA AOSSM travelling fellow in the USA, visiting renowned Sports Medicine centers in New York, London Ontario, Richmond, Memphis, Atlanta, Cincinnati and San Francisco. He also completed a six-month Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Research at the University of Pittsburgh, under the guidance of Professors F. Fu and S. Woo.

Since 2017, Professor Zaffagnini has held the position of Director of the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic II at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Bologna, where he has served as a First Level Medical Director at the Sports Traumatology Department since the 1990s and as Coordinator of the Sports Traumatology Specialist Reference Center since 2008. He is also Full Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Alma Mater Studiorum - Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bologna.

His clinical and scientific interests range from Sports Traumatology to Cartilage Pathology, from Arthroscopic and Prosthetic Surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip to Joint Biomechanics and Computer-Assisted Surgery, up to Biological Joint Reconstructions and Meniscus Transplants. Professor Zaffagnini is a member of all major orthopedic scientific societies and one of the few Italian surgeons to be admitted to the prestigious ACL Study Group, the leading scientific society dedicated to anterior cruciate ligament surgery.

He also plays an active role as a reviewer for several international scientific journals and has contributed numerous publications in the field of orthopedic medicine.
