Legs Health Open House December 2, 2023
UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital: Free clinical evaluations of Angiology and Aesthetic Medicine to protect legs health
Legs are a mirror of our overall health, and their appearance can reveal much about our circulatory condition. Problems such as varicose veins, dilated capillaries and swelling can be indicative of circulatory disorders, which affect up to 40 percent of the population in Italy.
Long hours spent standing or sitting during work and lifestyle can greatly affect the health and well-being of the legs. Women, in particular, may experience symptoms such as heaviness, fatigue, swelling and soreness, as well as skin imperfections such as dilated capillaries, varicose veins and cellulite. It is essential to pay attention to these signs, as they could be alarm bells concerning circulation and overall health.
In addition to the clinical aspect, we should not underestimate the importance of legs aesthetics in our quality of life. The presence of skin imperfections can negatively affect our emotional well-being, hindering us from leading an active and fulfilling life. Addressing these complaints not only improves our physical health but also helps to elevate our self-esteem and overall sense of well-being.
If you are facing circulatory disorders or legs blemishes, don't miss the opportunity to attend our Open Day dedicated to legs health:

What can legs problems be caused by?
The primary cause of legs problems is venous insufficiency, a phenomenon characterized by excessive blood pooling in the veins of the lower limbs. This condition can manifest itself in various forms, with one of the most common problems being varicose veins, associated with the superficial venous system. In such situations, blood flow encounters difficulty returning to the heart and accumulates in the extremities, leading to dilation of the venous walls. If problems affect the deep venous system, more serious coagulation disorders may occur, such as thrombosis, characterized by the presence of a blood clot obstructing the vein.
What are the main risk factors?
Several factors can increase the risk of developing circulatory problems in the legs. Among the main ones:
- Familiarity.
- Pregnancy.
- Hormonal changes (menopause, use of oral contraceptives).
- Lifestyle (poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking).
- Overweight and obesity.
Understanding these risk factors is crucial to taking a preventive approach and effectively managing legs health by promoting a healthy and conscious lifestyle.
