#Movember: Men's Health at the Center

In November, men's health takes center stage. Indeed, it is the month dedicated to the prevention of cancer and urogenital diseases through the international campaign known as #Movember.

Men's Health in Numbers

The most recent data underscore how important it is to keep the focus on these issues high. In Italy, more than 41,000 new cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in 2023, confirming it as the most frequent cancer among men and showing a 14% increase in the last three years. Currently, more than 564,000 men in our country are living with a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Testicular cancer, although less frequent and mainly affecting young men, between the ages of 15 and 34, also recorded more than 2,400 new diagnoses in 2022 (source: “Cancer Numbers in Italy 2023,” AIOM-AIRTUM).

The Importance of Prevention

Despite the prevalence of these cancers, many men still struggle to take prevention seriously. While gynecological examination and screenings are now part of the health care routine for many women, for men a visit to the urologist or andrologist is often postponed, sometimes until obvious symptoms appear. Yet early diagnosis can mean the difference between timely treatment and a more complicated situation.
