The Shoulder Center at UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital operates as part of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department, and is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of shoulder diseases and disorders. Shoulder Center: A Personalized Multidisciplinary Pathway

At our Shoulder Center, the patient is followed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists at all stages of his or her care pathway, from diagnosis to surgery and assisted rehabilitation, including at home.

The course of care includes:

  • Specialist orthopaedics consult for an initial diagnosis and to identify any diagnostic exams needed.
  • Diagnostic imaging: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), radiography (X-ray), ultrasound, echodoppler, CT scanner SOMATOM Force – Siemens Healthineers.
  • Conservative or surgical treatments. If the indicated treatment is surgical, the specialist will evaluate the type of surgery to be performed, with the support of highly advanced technologies.
  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitationThanks to the active collaboration between orthopaedists, physiatrists and physiotherapists working at our Shoulder Center, the patient will be able to recover function quickly, through rehabilitation paths and specific and personalized manual treatments.

Pathologies Treated

  • Arthrosis and arthritis of the shoulder.
  • Bursitis of the shoulder (sub acromion-deltoid, subscapularis).
  • Calcification and calcific injury of the shoulder.
  • Cervical or SLAP (or athlete's shoulder) injury.
  • Degenerative and traumatic rotator cuff disorders (subacromial conflict syndrome, tendon rupture, calcific tendinopathy).
  • Dislocation of the shoulder.
  • Fracture of the clavicle and humerus.
  • Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis.

  • Acromioclavicular joint arthroplasty.
  • Arthroplasty, or replacement of the shoulder joint.
  • Bankart surgery.
  • Endoscopic shoulder surgery.
  • Latarjet surgery.
  • Microvascular surgery for reconstruction of delicate blood vessels and nerves in the shoulder.
  • Release of joint contractures.
  • Reverse arthroplasty of the shoulder.
  • Shoulder arthroscopy.
  • Shoulder ligament reconstruction.
  • Surgery for fracture repair.
  • Treatment of previous unsuccessful surgeries.

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation of the Shoulder

Individual-assisted physiotherapy treatments can be performed at our Shoulder Center, thanks to the close cooperation between orthopaedics specialists and physiotherapists. The main goals of the treatments are:

  • Increased mobility.
  • Recovery of proprioception.
  • Recovery of sports, work, daily gestures.
  • Recovery of strength of movement.
  • Reduction of pain.

In addition, our clinic has a dedicated pool for hydrokinesitherapy, or water rehabilitation, for recovery of shoulder joint mobility and proper posture control.
