Computerized Bone Mineralometry (MOC) at UPMC
At UPMC, we offer Computerized Bone Mineralometry (MOC), a non-invasive diagnostic examination to assess the state of bone health. This investigation, which measures the amount and mass of minerals present in bones, is useful to diagnose osteoporosis, prevent fractures, and monitor the stages of the treatment adopted. The exam lasts about 15 minutes.

Pathologies Treated
MOC is indicated to prevent and diagnose osteoporosis, a pathology of the skeleton that involves a weakening of bone resistance. This causes an increased risk of fractures, and consequently of cases of hospitalization and health care.
Who Should Undergo an MOC
Osteoporosis affects 7.5% of the population, mostly women. In particular, the female population between 50 and 80 years, more at risk of bone demineralization, is more prone to skeletal fragility and spontaneous bone fractures, which can affect the spine, long bones and pelvis. MOC is generally recommended from 45 years of age to monitor bone health, identify disease at an early stage and prevent more serious problems.
