UPMC Orthopaedic Care, Sports Medicine, and Concussion Program
UPMC is a leader in advanced orthopaedic care. We diagnose and treat a full range of musculoskeletal disorders using the most innovative tools and techniques to provide better outcomes. UPMC Orthopaedic Care also leads in research and clinical trials, striving to improve treatment, recovery, and patient care.
For decades, UPMC Sports Medicine has cared for athletes and active people of all ages and experience levels to prevent and treat injuries or pain. We use individualized, cutting-edge, and science-based techniques to help speed recovery and restore function. That’s why elite athletes from around the world turn to us for care.
Volker Musahl, MD, orthopaedic surgeon and medical director of UPMC International Sports Medicine has traveled to UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital in Italy to care for many elite European football and rugby athletes. In addition, he and the late legendary orthopaedic surgeon, Freddie Fu, MD, treated soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović in Pittsburgh.
The experts of UPMC’s Sports Medicine Concussion Program help to manage concussions at all levels. We see athletes and patients from around the world, virtually and in person, to get them back to the sports or activities they love. Our concussion program is led by international expert Michael “Micky” Collins, PhD.
In March 2023, UPMC officially acquired the renowned Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC), a leading independent hospital located in the northern Dublin suburb of Santry. SSC, led by founder and orthopaedic surgeon Mr. Ray Moran, expands UPMC’s world-class orthopaedic and sports medicine care throughout Ireland and across Europe.
