Support Services for Patients and Families

The focus of the UPMC Traveling Patient Services team is to provide patients and their families with the services needed to make the journey to receiving care easier.

While UPMC physicians are helping patients with their clinical needs, the UPMC Traveling Patient Services team is helping patients and families with non-medical needs, such as:

  • Dietary support
  • Financial services
  • Housing and recreation
  • Religious support
  • Second Medical Opinion
  • Translation services
  • Travel and visa assistance

International patients seeking treatment in the U.S. or Italy may face the challenge of cultural barriers. Our team of hospitality coordinators help provide patients with comprehensive and culturally competent assistance. From pre-arrival through follow-up, a dedicated hospitality coordinator will help you to navigate your time in the United States or Italy in the most stress-free manner possible.

Second Medical Opinion

It’s not just a second opinion, it’s peace of mind. That’s why getting a second medical opinion can help you determine the best treatment plan. And it can sometimes reveal options you didn’t know about. With such critical decisions to be made, you deserve to know all the treatment options that are available to you.

Financial Services

The UPMC Traveling Patient Services team strives to provide services to streamline the financial process as well. We help you to understand the complexities of medical billing and payment specifics for receiving care in the United States or Italy.

When initially scheduling an appointment, we will discuss payment options and personal preferences with you. Full payment is required before UPMC can provide medical services. At the end of treatment, patients will meet with the UPMC Traveling Patient Services team again to review any additional pending charges.
