The UPMC Vision Institute includes board certified ophthalmologists, optometrists, residents, and other health care professionals who provide an entire range of eye care services in many specialties and subspecialties.
Under the leadership of José-Alain Sahel, MD, one of the world’s top experts in retinal diseases and vision restoration, UPMC provides groundbreaking research to find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat eye disorders and diseases as well as to preserve healthy vision.
Dr. Sahel is an exceptional class professor of Ophthalmology at Sorbonne Université and was the founding director of The Vision Institute (Sorbonne Université, Inserm, CNRS) Paris, France.
UPMC Mercy Pavilion
The UPMC Vision Institute is headquartered at the new UPMC Mercy Pavilion, a state-of-the-art facility located in Pittsburgh on the hospital campus of UPMC Mercy. It includes amenities for patients and visitors including innovative biotherapy treatments, a life skills apartment, street lab, rooftop rehabilitation garden, and fully integrated low-vision rehabilitation technologies and services.
