Locations for UPMC Traveling Patient Services

UPMC helps traveling patients connect with our world-renowned hospitals and specialty care centers in the U.S., Italy, Ireland, and beyond. For some, it may mean travel to Pittsburgh, PA (U.S) but for others, it could be a trip to a location closer to home. Regardless, our facilities are equipped to address the most complex clinical cases.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is one of a select number of centers in the U.S. designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center provides the highest level of clinical care to more than 140,000 people each year.

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is recognized nationally and internationally for providing world-class clinical services in the areas of pediatric transplant, cardiac care, gastroenterology, neurology and neurosurgery, childhood cancer, otolaryngology, pulmonology, and more. U.S. News & World Report ranks UPMC Children’s Hospital number six on its Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals for 2022-2023.

UPMC Presbyterian is a leader in organ transplantation, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, and neurological care from world-renowned physician-scientists. An expansion project is underway for the construction of 636 private patient rooms that will leverage the latest technologies to enhance patient care.

The UPMC Vision Institute includes board certified ophthalmologists, optometrists, residents, and other health care professionals who provide an entire range of eye care services in many specialties and subspecialties. Its new state-of-the-art facility opened in May 2023 at the UPMC Mercy Pavilion.

UPMC Sports Medicine includes two world-class sports medicine facilities, the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex and the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Both facilities include advanced technologies and access to comprehensive, renowned sports medicine and concussion services for athletes and active people.

ISMETT, (Mediterranean Institute for Transplants and Highly Specialized Therapies), in Palermo, is a transplant center of excellence and a reference hospital for the entire Mediterranean area. ISMETT provides traveling patients with the most advanced therapies for end-stage organ failure in addition to advanced care interventions across a variety of specialties.

In 2022, UPMC announced a partnership to establish a UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Zabok, Croatia. The agreement will provide access to cutting-edge cancer therapies to patients in Croatia and neighboring countries. It is expected to open in 2025 and will be managed by UPMC.
