specialist-professional-biography-headingDr. Mariano Barbalace is a medical doctor and surgeon specializing in Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery, with extensive clinical experience gained both in Italy and abroad, and particular expertise in minimally invasive pediatric surgery.
Since 2004, he has served as Head of the Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Unit at Policlinico Madonna della Consolazione in Reggio Calabria, where he coordinates highly complex clinical and surgical activities.
After graduating with honors in Medicine and Surgery and completing his specialization in Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery at the University of Messina, he continued his training in prestigious international centers, including the Royal Hospital for Sick Children – University of Edinburgh (UK), as Fellow in Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery; St. James’s Hospital – University of Leeds (UK), with advanced courses in minimally invasive pediatric surgery; and Seattle Children’s Hospital – University of Washington (USA), as Attached Surgeon.
Throughout his career, he has further developed expertise in laparoscopic and retroperitoneal pediatric surgery under the guidance of internationally renowned figures such as Professors Azad Najimaldin, Jacques Marescaux, and Michael Mitchell.
He is the author and co-author of scientific publications and has participated as a speaker at national and international conferences.
In 2003, he received an award from the British Association of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons for the best scientific work in the field of minimally invasive pediatric surgery.
