He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University La Sapienza in Rome, followed by a specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Ferrara, and later in Sports Medicine at La Sapienza University. He further expanded his expertise in the pediatric field as a volunteer assistant in the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit led by Prof. Lucio Parenzan in Bergamo.
He served as a Level I Medical Officer in the Cardiology Department and as a Level II Medical Officer in the Department of Cardiorespiratory and Sports Medicine at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome. Calzolari also gained extensive international experience in leading U.S. institutions, including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (Minnesota), the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati (Ohio), the Children’s Hospital st Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.), and the Boston Children’s Hospital (Massachusetts).
He is an active member of several scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology, the Italian Society of Sports Medicine, the European Society of Pediatric Cardiology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the North American Society of Pediatric Exercise Medicine.
Dr. Calzolari is the author of two reference books: “Rehabilitation of Children After Cardiac Surgery” and “From Nutrition to Doping: Helping Children and Adolescents Engage in Physical Activity”.
