Dr. Camillieri is an orthopedic surgeon specialized in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He graduated in Medicine Summa cum laude from the University of Rome La Sapienza. He completed the specialization in orthopedic surgery with honors at the University of Rome La Sapienza and then a fellowship in the hip and knee surgery to the Nyumc under the guidance of Prof. Joseph Fetto. He also completed his training in Sports Medicine at the University of Rome in Motor Sciences (IUSM) and Villa Stuart Hospital in collaboration with Professor Pier Paolo Mariani. At the IUSM he was a professor of traumatology of sport. He was a professor of orthopedic biomechanics at the University of Rome La Sapienza and researcher at the University of L'Aquila. Dr. Camillieri received awards from the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (Siot) and the Italian Council for Research (CNR).

He is the honorary member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (EXM) and has been an international Member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and an international member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). He is an active member of the International Arthroscopy Company, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Medicine of Sport (Isakos) where he was involved in the Sport and Conservation Committee and, currently, in the Communications Committee. He was president of the web and communications committee and of the Committee of the European Sports Traumatology Society, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESKA). He is currently a member of the Editorial Committee of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and is an editor for the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM), as well as an editor for Knee Surgery and KSSTA. He was the ESSKA-AOSSM Travelling Fellow in 2001 with Romain Seil, Patrick Djian and Pierre Chambat. He has a specific interest in the progress of sports medicine through research, the publication of scientific articles and book chapters. His experience, his background and his ability in orthopedic sports medicine are testified by the numerous surgical and regenerative procedures that he has performed on high-level athletes and his involvement in high-level teams including AS Roma Calcio (2000-2002 winning the Italian championship in 2001), the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), the Italian Swimming Federation, Water Polo and Diving (Fin), and the Italian Judo Federation, Karate, Struggle and Martial Arts (Fijlkam). He is also Head of the medical staff of the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) and an orthopedic consultant of the Italian Olympic Committee.
