specialist-professional-biography-headingProfessor Renato Caviglia is a Gastroenterologist and Digestive Endoscopist with extensive clinical and academic experience in Italy and the United Kingdom, with particular expertise in immune-mediated disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), and advanced digestive endoscopy.
Since 2019, he has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Barts Health NHS Trust in London, holding a permanent position within the UK National Health Service. He has also served as a consultant in internationally renowned centers such as Royal Marsden Hospital, St Mark’s Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Queen’s Hospital, and Homerton University Hospital.
In Italy, he worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Ospedale Israelitico of Rome and as an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome.
Since 2013, he has been a Young European Assessor for AIFA/EMA in the Gastroenterology & Immunology area, with responsibilities in the evaluation and approval of biological therapies for IBD.
He has undertaken clinical training periods at international centers of excellence, including the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York), St. Bartholomew’s Hospital (London), and the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery and specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at La Sapienza University of Rome, he earned a PhD in Hepato-Gastroenterology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
He has received an NHS Excellence Award for his clinical work in the United Kingdom.
