        Dr. Enza Lo Re, MD, FEBN, is Head of the Neurology Service at IRCCS ISMETT-UPMC and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her medical degree and completed her neurology residency at the University of Palermo. In 2014, she established ISMETT-UPMC’s neurology service, specializing in neurological complications in patients with end-stage organ diseases and solid organ transplants (SOT).

        Her research focuses on brain injury mechanisms related to chronic liver (liver-brain axis) and kidney diseases (kidney-brain axis) and developing brain health programs for transplant candidates and recipients. Dr. Lo Re is also a member of the Alzheimer’s Association Global Consortium, studying neurological effects in immunocompromised SOT recipients post-SARS-CoV-2. As part of the Italian Ministry of Health’s Gender Medicine program, she promotes research and care that consider gender differences in neurological health.
