        Alessandro Mattina is Chief of the Diabetes Service at IRCCS ISMETT-UPMC. In 2016, he specialized in Internal Medicine with a focus on metabolic, diabetes, and lipid clinical training and research. In 2015 and 2016, he was clinical research fellow at the Endocrinology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease department at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France.

        In 2021, he obtained a PhD in Cardiovascular, Metabolic, and Degenerative diseases at the University of Palermo. He focused on genetic dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, clinical nutrition, and obesity. He also completed training and observership program in transplantation, advanced therapies, and regenerative diabetes medicine centers including the University of Miami’s Diabetes Research Institute.

        In 2018, Dr. Mattina started working at ISMETT-UPMC as a diabetologist and clinical manager of the pancreas and kidney-pancreas transplant program. He mainly works in the diagnosis and treatment of post-transplant diabetes, type 2 and type 1 diabetes, as well as clinical management of patients evaluated, enrolled, or in follow-up for pancreas and pancreatic islet transplantation.

        Dr. Mattina is principal investigator in internal and multicenter research projects with a metabolic focus on diabetes and liver diseases and collaborates in national and international scientific networks. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and participates as editor and reviewer in international journals.
