Professor Massimiliano Mutignani is a medical doctor and surgeon, specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He has extensive, well-established experience in interventional digestive endoscopy, particularly in the endoscopic treatment of biliary and pancreatic diseases, complications of upper gastrointestinal surgery, palliative management of neoplastic gastrointestinal strictures, and gastroenterological emergencies.
Alongside his diagnostic endoscopic activity, he has developed advanced skills in operative and minimally invasive endoscopy of the digestive tract. Over the course of his career, he has performed over 30,000 interventional ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) procedures, making him one of Italy’s leading experts in the field.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, he obtained his specialization at the same university first in Emergency Surgery and Emergency Medicine, and subsequently in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy.
He is currently the Director of the Complex Unit of Digestive and Interventional Endoscopy at ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milan. Previously, he served as Head of the Complex Unit of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at Fatebenefratelli and Ophthalmic Hospital in Milan.
Formerly an Associate Professor of General Surgery at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, he is actively involved in training medical residents from Italian and international universities.
He is the author of numerous scientific publications indexed in PubMed and regularly participates as a speaker and moderator at conferences and continuing education courses in gastroenterology and endoscopy.
