specialist-professional-biography-headingDr. Michele Pilato is the Director of the Department for the treatment and study of cardio-thoracic diseases and cardiothoracic transplants. He has been working at ISMETT since April 2004 as Heart Surgeon and since December 2005 he has also assumed the role of Head of Heart Surgery. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Palermo in 1985. He obtained two fellowships in Cardiovascular Surgery: one at the Texas Heart Institute and the other at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (Minnesota).
He also took on the role of Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. He obtained two residencies in Vascular and Cardiovascular Surgery, at the University of Catania and the University of Palermo. From 1997 to 2004 he assumed the role of Head of the Cardiovascular Surgery department at the Villa Maria Eleonora Clinic in Palermo.
Dr. Pilato has been a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) since 1999, a member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) since 2001 and a member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICC) since 2002.
