Prof. Alessio Vona

Professor Alessio Vona is a medical doctor and surgeon, specialized in Vascular Surgery, with extensive experience in the management of arterial and venous diseases in both elective and emergency settings. His clinical and surgical activity has developed over the years within major hospitals in Rome, including Sant’Andrea Hospital and the San Camillo–Forlanini Hospital Trust.

He performs open vascular surgery procedures involving the neck, abdomen, thorax, and thoraco abdominal district, as well as the upper and lower limbs. He has also gained broad expertise in both standard and complex endovascular surgery, hybrid procedures, and the management of vascular polytrauma.

His practice includes advanced treatment of critical limb ischemia and limb salvage, wound care with advanced dressings and VAC therapy, as well as major and minor amputations, tenotomies, and the application of artificial dermal substitutes. In the field of venous disease, he performs traditional surgery for chronic venous insufficiency and endovenous procedures, including radiofrequency ablation and cyanoacrylate closure, in addition to endovascular treatment of chronic deep venous thrombosis. He has also developed specific expertise in the creation and management of arteriovenous fistulas, using both open and endovascular approaches, including techniques aimed at maintaining AVF patency.

He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, where he also completed his specialization in Vascular Surgery. He subsequently obtained a Level II University Master’s Degree in “Executive Functions and Healthcare Services Management” from the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.

He currently serves as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the San Camillo–Forlanini Hospital Trust.

He is the author of scientific publications in the vascular field.
