specialist-professional-biography-headingAlessandro Zampogna, M.D., is a neurologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of central and peripheral nervous system disorders. He has a particular focus on movement disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, with specific expertise in the management of advanced Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, spasticity, and dementia. He also uses botulinum toxin as a targeted treatment for various neurological conditions, including dystonia, spasticity, chronic migraine, and hyperhidrosis.
He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery and completed his residency in Neurology at Sapienza University of Rome, where he also obtained a PhD in Clinical-Experimental Neurosciences and Psychiatry. He further enhanced his training abroad at the Movement Disorders Unit of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Grenoble Alpes (France) and the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm (Sweden).
Dr. Zampogna is actively involved in clinical and translational research at the il Human Neurosciences, Sapienza University and at the Institute of Neurology, Policlinico Umberto I in Rome, where he collaborates with the Cognitive Disorders and Dementia Center (CDCD) on clinical trials for new Alzheimer’s disease treatments. He also collaborates with the IRCCS Neuromed in Pozzilli (IS) on research projects in the field of neuroscience.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Neurology (SIN), the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), and the Italian Academy for the Study of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders (LIMPE-DISMOV). Author of numerous scientific publications and recipient of several research awards, Dr. Zampogna serves as Associate Editor of JMIR Neurotechnology and Review Editor for international journals such as Therapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience – Motor Neuroscience, and Sensors.
