Coronavirus: ECDC Risk Assessment

Coronavirus: The respiratory disease caused by 2019-nCoV has been called COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease). Overall – according to data published on 12 February by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) – a total of 45,179 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been notified, of which 1115 deaths. In Europe, in the EU/EEA (European Union/European Economic Area) countries, there are 43 confirmed cases. But how to quantify the percentage of risk? According to the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) risk assessment, updated to 10 February, “the risk of infection with the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV for citizens of EU/EEA (European Union/European Economic Area) and UK countries is currently low, while the risk of infection for EU/EEA and UK citizens, that they reside or are visiting areas where the infection is being transmitted is, at the moment, high”.
