The U.S. Consul Visits ISMETT

The U.S. Consul General in Naples, Mary Avery, visited ISMETT with her delegation on 29 January 2020.

Ms. Avery was welcomed by Dr. Angelo Luca, CEO of ISMETT and by Giuseppe Dell'Acqua, Managing Director of UPMC Italy (the Italian division of UPMC), the American partner that has been managing the transplant center in Palermo for over 20 years. At ISMETT, Ms. Avery visited the intensive care unit, the thoracic cardiac surgery unit, the new imaging laboratory, and the pediatrics unit.

“ISMETT – underlined Mrs. Avery – represents the clearest example of the excellent results that Sicily and the United States are able to achieve by investing together in the highest technologies and best professionals. The new center for biotechnology and biomedical research of the R.iMED Foundation, which will be built near Palermo, is the result of a fruitful collaboration between public and private partners, and excellent news for Sicily – explains Mrs. Avery – not only because it will contribute to reach more ambitious goals in the field of research and medicine, but also because it will create new highly qualified jobs for the benefit of Sicily."

“ISMETT is the result of an international partnership between the Region of Sicily and UPMC. We have an ongoing fruitful collaboration with the United States that started over twenty years," said ISMETT CEO, Dr. Angelo Luca. “Over the years, the know-how and skills shared by UPMC have allowed us to reach important results in the field of clinical research, attract EU funds for technological upgrade and provide the highest levels of care to our patients and to patients coming to us from other countries," concluded Dr. Luca.
