UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Villa Maria: colorectal cancer CME event

The multidisciplinary treatment of colorectal cancer is the topic of discussion of the CME event "Diagnosis, Therapeutic Strategies and Multidisciplinary Treatment in Colorectal Cancer", hosted Saturday, November 11 by UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Villa Maria.

Prof. PierCarlo Gentile, Medical Director of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center San Pietro FBF  and Head of Radiotherapy at San Pietro Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Rome, is the Scientific head of the course which will see participation of renowned experts. The course is aimed at GPs, general surgeons, oncologists, radiation therapists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, physicists, and biologists, and is valid for 4 CME credits.

Colorectal cancer: multi-disciplinarity and synergies among specialists

Colorectal cancer represents a major challenge for healthcare system and society, with approximately 50,000 new cases each year in Italy.

The treatment and management model for this cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach where general practitioners, oncologists, and the entire clinical teamwork in synergy along the whole treatment pathway. The diagnostic and therapeutic advancements allow for increasingly personalized treatments and therapies.

Course Objectives

The goal of this event is to support the debate and the sharing of clinical experiences, favoring the increase of operational synergies among specialists to improve the treatment and follow-up of the disease.

The event will explore the role of the GP in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer, the different surgery and radiotherapy approaches for the treatment of this tumor, and the most recent innovations. The course includes a simulation of a radiation treatment.
