The Importance of Cardiac Prevention

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death worldwide. In Italy, they accounted for nearly 31% of all deaths in 2022 (data from the Ministry of Health) and are also the main cause of morbidity and disability. The encouraging news, however, is that with proper prevention, deaths could be reduced by 80% (source: Global Burden of Cardiovascular Diseases, published Monday in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology). Cardiovascular diseases are largely preventable, as they are caused not only by non-modifiable risk factors (age, sex, and family history) but also by modifiable factors related to behaviors and lifestyle (smoking, alcohol, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity).

How to Reduce the Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases

The first step is to adopt a healthy lifestyle: maintain a balanced diet, engage in regular physical activity, quit smoking, and reduce alcohol consumption. It is also crucial to take care of your health before symptoms appear by undergoing regular medical check-ups to monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and rhythm, as well as levels such as blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides—parameters that become even more critical after the age of 40.

Don’t wait until you feel unwell. Take care of your heart every day. We look forward to seeing you at our Heart Weeks!
